Mon Oct 27th: JC 1 - 1 STATHS (Walker Cup)
Jamaica College (JC) secured the last semi-final spot in the Inter-secondary Schools Sports Association (ISSA)/Pepsi/ Digicel Walker KO competition, with an exciting 4-3 penalty shoot-out win over St Andrew Technical High School (STATHS) yesterday at Constant Spring Football Field.
Both played to a 1-1 draw in full and extra time. JC will now face Bridgeport in one of tomorrow's semi-final, while Norman Manley will oppose George's College in the other at the same venue.
After a dull first half in which both teams failed to create any meaningful scoring opportunities, both sides stepped up the tempo in second half and on minute 65, substitute Odaine Ellson gave STATHS the lead when he fired a powerful right-footed shot past custodian Marlon Johnson.
However, Kenrick Reeves equalised for JC two minutes later, converting a left-sided cross from Ashani Walker. Both sides failed to brake the deadlock in extra time, as they squandered a number of clear-cut chances.
Mon Oct 20th: Wolmer's 0 - 1 STATHS
In a scrappy affair at Heroes Circle, the home team had the better of the chances, but Reid caught the Wolmer's defence asleep and latched onto a free-kick from Andrew Christie to volley past Amai Knight in goal.
Earlier, Claude Allen and Chris Waugh came close for the hosts, while Christie had STATHS' best chance in the second half when he forced Knight to parry his header wide from a corner.
However, when the game appeared as if it was heading for a draw, Christie launched a free-kick from deep inside the Wolmer's half and with Knight and his defence asleep, Reid raced through to direct the ball into the goal.
Winning coach Keith Nichols said he was happy to be in the Walker Cup Knock-out competition and they will be taking it as seriously as the Manning Cup itself.
"We have never won the Walker Cup although we have been to the final three times, but this time we are looking to move on and go all the way," he said.
